Registration of Students:

Early registration for students will take place beginning in early February.  Families who have children in the Religious Education Program will receive registration forms for their child/children in early February.  These forms will be mailed to you.  You will be expected to return the forms and your fees before March 19th.

All children entering Kindergarten in September of the current year must be registered for Religious Education classes.  No child may enter the First Grade Program unless he/she has completed the Kindergarten Religious Education Program.

Catholic parents of the child hoping to come to the Religious Education Program are expected to be registered parishioners of St. Rose Parish. They and their children should worship at St. Rose Church every week.  If there is extra room in our program, children from neighboring parishes will be accepted.  However, the parents must obtain the written permission of their Pastor before applying.  All children coming to the Religious Education Program must present a baptismal certificate at the time of registration. If they have attended religion classes in another parish, they need proof of their participation in class. Certificates of First Penance and First Communion are required of students who have received these Sacraments.

Philosophy

Formal Religious education is an essential part of a life-long process toward maturity in Christian faith as a lived reality.  Within a structure suited to the intellectual and psychological ability of the student, Christ’s people, the Church,

speak and listen to God’s Word, teach and learn from one another, probe the meaning of the Gospel in today’s world, reflect on the teachings of Christ and the Church and support and encourage one another to live their Faith.

Goals

To support the active, informal religious education imparted by parents through a more structured and coordinated program of leaning and living the Catholic Faith.  To create an atmosphere of learning based on Christian values and to strive to teach the whole person by going beyond the intellectual toward a personal commitment of love and service in the Church.

Role of Parents

Our Religious Education Program is based on the teachings of the Church that parents are the primary and principle educators of their children.  “This role in education is so important that only with great difficulty can it be supplied where it is lacking.  Parents are the ones who create a family atmosphere animated by love and respect for God and man, in which the well rounded personal and social education of children is fostered.” (Declaration on Christian Education)  Without parental interest and support formal religious education can have little hope to succeed in its goals. Only parents can assure proper attitudinal formation of their children by being living witnesses and models of Christian values.
